Neck Pain & Stiffness

Neck Pain & StiffnessNot all people know how to describe or identify their pain. Some patients will present with no pain but describe stiffness, achiness, and decreased movement.
Please note that achiness is a type of pain. Whether pain is present or not, acute & chronic neck injuries are typically associated with misaligned vertebrae, which results in restricted motion, muscle spasms, and can put pressure on the spinal nerves creating dysfunction. As an example, birth is often traumatic for both mother and baby.
For this reason concerned parents will often have their infants checked by a chiropractor, especially in cases where the baby’s head is stuck in a certain position (ie., Torticollis/Cervical Dystonia). Similarly problems with the jaw (TMJ), sinus, ringing in the ears, etc. can also indicate potential spinal misalignments.
If neck problems are left untreated it can lead to accelerated spinal degeneration, create long-term joint motion restriction, and may create neurological symptoms such as numbness, tingling, weakness, etc.
