In a recent study, data from a 2008 Health interview survey was analysed for specific patients who were suffering from dizziness and balance issues. There was a finding that over 35% of the patients surveyed reporting symptoms were over 65 years of age.
The study went on to investigate what professional help was sought by these patients and how successful the help was found to be.
– 4.7% visited a Chiropractor – a low number, but they had the highest response of an improvement of their symptoms, detailing that the treatment had helped them.
– 84% of patients visited a General Physician – a much higher proportion however, the success rate in alleviating the symptoms was the lowest.
The Authors of the study speculated that a larger proportion of dizziness and balance problems in patients aged over 65 were more likely to be caused by neck dysfunction – this is known as cervicogenic dizziness and is common after an injury. Chiropractic helps restore the normal function the spine after these types of injuries, and can help relieve dizziness and improve balance.
